What Color is Trending?
Trends are so interesting. Correction: Some are and others should be retired forever. Like bell-bottomed pants. No thank you.
But trends in color have placed gray (or grey, if you prefer that spelling) front and center for home decor for almost a decade. It came to be thought of as a “neutral” color.
Last year’s prediction was that gray would be on the way out. Even Benjamin Moore moved from their grays to a light, silvery green kinda beige that they called, “greeneige.” Others followed along with a grayish beige-ish combo called greige.
We’ve been seeing kitchen cabinets in navy, forest green, or soft sage green but apparently the new color trend will embrace some warmth in a light terra cotta color. All white kitchens, however, are thought to become snoozers this year. The buzz is that we all needed simple and blank canvas to help us get through the pandemic. Now, it’s believed that we could all benefit from a pop of color, with warmer tones.
Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year for 2023 is called Redend Point SW 9081. It’s a muted, soft, adobe-like clay color. Think earthy, warm desert mixed with a dusty rusty undertone.
And what’s next? According to WGSN, formerly known as Worth Global Style Network, this global authority on consumer and design trends and Coloro, a global authority on the future of color, have announced Apricot Crush as the Color of the Year for 2024.
So see how you feel about these trends because color definitely affects mood.
Whatever you decide, remember to stay enchanted.
