Super Bowl Can Be Super Safe and Super Fun
Whether or not you’re a sports fan, Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend. If you’re among those who couldn’t be bothered with who’s playing, who’s performing at halftime, and who has the best commercials, then I’d like to invite you to set aside that time to do something really special, healing, or fun for yourself.
Super Bowl LV (55) weekend has arrived. After a long time of divisive behavior in our country, this can feel like one more “us against them,” OR, it can return us to good old-fashioned competition on the field, with teams, team colors, spirited fun and (hopefully also healthy versions of) game-day foods.
Pandemic Safety Suggestions
Restrictions during the pandemic should include common sense. Of course, realistically, guest viewers in a household are going to be in closer range than is likely safe, and if you’re like most fans, you’ll be shouting, eating (without your mask on) and spraying toxic spittle everywhere.
You might consider watching it with your family pod and zooming in your besties so you can remain unmasked and still safe. Food can be prepared, with each household involved making a dish and dropping it off on the afternoon of game day to be enjoyed during the game. (That’s what we’re planning to do.)
Fun Facts
This year’s game is between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who get to play at their home field. Their stadium can actually hold 65,890 people but due to the pandemic, “only” 25,000 fans are allowed to attend, along with 30,000 cutouts. I’m not sure what happens with those extra seats.
TICKETS have been selling for $12,180.00 per ticket, which seems a bit excessive to me, but no one asked for my opinion.
COMMERCIALS will feature the big-ticket advertisements from Coca-Cola, Uber Eats and Logitech, but this will be the first time in 37 years that Budweiser, itself, won’t have an ad, “in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.” This was announced “in an effort to prioritize humanity and purpose.” However, commercials whose brands fall under Anheuser-Busch, (like Bud Light, Michelob ULTRA, etc.) will be represented.
HALFTIME ENTERTAINMENT is by The Weeknd, (not a typo) who was snubbed from the Grammy nominations even though his contributions to the music world in 2020 were outstanding. (The Weeknd is a solo artist and not an entire weekend as one might think. ) He’s a 30 year-old, multi-talented, black artist named Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, who is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer, noted for his versatility in vocal style, music production, and eccentric presentation. According to 9News, the performer said, “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage.” He told Billboard last week that he's “put up $7 million of his own money to make this halftime show be what he envisioned.” Let’s hope it’s enchanting!
SUPERBOWL RINGS-Oh, and which player has collected the most jewelry in terms of Super Bowl rings? That would be Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady, with a total of 6.
Whatever you decide to do on Super Bowl Sunday, be SAFE, have fun, and stay enchanted.
Hugs.
