Halloween 2020 Re-imagined

It’s not too early to start thinking about some new and creative ways to celebrate Halloween 2020! It’s only two weeks away for those of us who think we’re still somewhere in September.

I’ve been scaring up some suggestions from various sites and I’m sharing a few favorite ones, here. Some involve Zoom parties and many, don’t.

1 Zoom Costume Party! You can host a costume party and have each person contribute a song to a Halloween playlist, play Halloween-related word games, or tell ghost stories. Impartial judges can award winners in a costume contest.

2 Zoom Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Party! Send invitations in advance for each Zoom guest to show up ready to decorate their pumpkin in real time to a theme, such as characters from a movie or TV show, or their favorite musical artist, or famous person.

3 Trunk or Treat parties are trending. Cars park at appropriate social distance in a parking lot with decorated car trunks with a designated person handing the candy to trick or treaters that go, one-at-a-time, from car to car.

4 Reverse Trick-or-Treat-Kids can dress up and stand in their yard, while adults make the rounds and throw candy toward the kids.

5 A Candy Chute-Andrew Beattie, a Dad, created a cool chute out of a cardboard tube, decorated it and secured it to his front step railing, so he’ll be able to send the candy down a chute to the kid on the other end of the tube for a contactless treat.

6 Trick-or-Treat Driveway Table- Great for neighborhoods in which mask-wearing adults can be in charge of the table and have packaged treats that the kids come up and take one of before going to the next house. Weather has to cooperate. This could also possibly work inside of a garage with the cars parked on the street.

-For your Zoom meetings the week ahead, put up Halloween themed backgrounds.

-Choose costumes that incorporate the masks we wear to keep ourselves safe from COVID.

-Don’t allow kids to reach in a container for the candy. Have a designated adult, with hand sanitizer, dispense the treats.
