Have You Gathered Around the Family Tree?
Since the birth of our fourth grandchild last week, many discussions were prompted regarding the names of ancestors. I have been surprised by the lack of information we have on even the more recent family members.
I realized that there was a discrepancy in one grandfather’s name because his birth name was different from his name after he came through Ellis Island. With regard to another grandfather, I was told his first name by one relative and remembered seeing that name on the back of a photo and then a close, but different first name written on the back of another photo of him.
All of this has me thinking that our family connections are much too precious and important to take lightly. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before and, especially in these times, it seems vitally important to know our family tree.
I know people who have enjoyed the journey through looking up their ancestry but if that is too involved, maybe just consider having a ZOOM meeting or even a ZOOM reunion, in which everyone shares the information that they have regarding names, dates and locations of births/deaths, family health histories or generational features that are prominent in family members.
Connect with those family members you have and gather information, share stories and photos to strengthen the roots on the family tree.
Go on a journey of discovery and stay enchanted!
