For Your Furry Valentine!
This is a busy, event-filled weekend ahead! It’s Valentine’s Day weekend and Superbowl. If you’re not a football fan, then you’re likely making plans with others who also don’t care about game day.
You know that I’m all about Valentine’s Day. Our family’s annual card-making/pizza party with a decadent chocolate dessert is happening this weekend. And it’s not just girls day. The guys get fully into it and make cards for us and Superbowl Sunday will be all about meatball subs, salad and chocolate covered strawberries that look like footballs.
This Valentine’s Day, at just past a year since Toffee, my furry Valentine, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, has me missing her and offering a treat to make for your furry canine Valentine. I made many treats for her from the cookbook by Michele Bledsoe, titled, The Doggy Bone Cookbook. It even comes with a mini size dog bone cookie cutter. For the day of hearts, you could certainly use a heart shaped cookie cutter.
Of all of the recipes, some of which included Toffee’s favorite bananas, and peanut butter, this one was her favorite and is called Bark-B-Q.
Ingredients:
-2 cups whole wheat flour
-1/2 cup tomato paste
-1/2 cup oatmeal
-3 tablespoons vegetable oil (I used olive oil)
-1/4 cup wheat germ
-3/4 cup water
-1 Tablespoon honey
How to:
Preheat oven to 375• degrees. Combine dry ingredients. In a a separate bowl, mix oil, water, honey and tomato paste. Add to dry ingredients. Roll dough to 1/4” thick, cut with cookie cutter, and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 30 minutes at 375• degrees.
Makes 5 dozen.
(It makes a lot so freeze some or share with more than one furry Valentine.)
Whatever you do, have fun, be safe, and stay enchanted!
