Create Boundaries On Your Terms!

Things have been so heavy and spiritually exhausting.

Take a break from the chaos, the overwhelm, and those things that you cannot control.

Create boundaries!

Use the Enchanted Key to Mindfulness to consciously shift your reality away from the constant worries and stressors that bombard you. It’s healthy.

You’re not in denial or diminishing your concerns, but rather using mental energy to parcel out your reality, which allows you to develop your “boundaries.”

Draw boundaries around yourself, your time, and your energy. Ask yourself, “Who or what deserves my attention today? How much energy will I devote to that? What else is vying for my time and participation?”

Make sure that time for meals, hydration, sleep, and down-time/playtime, are on your list and non-negotiable. Each day enjoy a minimum of 20 minutes to savor the sensory experiences of the moment.

Go outside to sit with a tree, observing it’s visual beauty, the sounds, scents, tastes associated with it, and the textures. Immerse yourself in the retreat from stress.

Take a break to play with a pet. Really notice the colors in his or her fur, look into those soulful eyes, listen to the sounds of breath that signal excitement. Smell their earthiness. Our beloved Toffee always naturally smelled like patchouli. I loved to bury my face in her fur and breathe in her scent. We used to share the taste of blueberries and bananas, as we were both fans of the flavors. I memorized the textures of her thick fur, soft ears, hard toenails, and smooth underbelly.

Challenge yourself to choose something different each day or look forward to a particular ritual you create. The concerns will wait for you and you’ll be much more likely to face them when you’ve given yourself a break from them. You’ll have greater clarity, a more expansive perspective, and renewed spirit.

Think about a visual that reminds you to create boundaries. Is it a broad-tipped Sharpie? A box with a lid? A sealed Mason jar with a seal that keeps the contents contained? Maybe write the word BOUNDARIES on a chalkboard or piece of paper and put it where you’ll see it several times a day.

Don’t fall down the rabbit hole that leaves you feeling like you’re not in charge of your life. Create boundaries on your terms and remember to stay enchanted!

Hugs. Dr. Segal
