Shopping! Gifts That Support Mother Earth
Dear Enchanted One,
I hope you enjoyed a day of gratitude.
Now, it’s on to holiday shopping! Of course for most of us, Uncle Amazon will be shopping and shipping our gifts this year, but here’s something to consider going forward.
Instead of wasting gift wrap that gets thrown away, why not buy gift bags and a rainbow of tissue paper that can be reused again and again? We’ve done this in our family for decades. We’ve even preserved memories of where the bags came from. On the bottom of the bag I’ve written the city we were in when the bag joined us and who it was from. We have beautiful bags from family members no longer with us and each time we use them it’s like a loving wink from them.
Just after every season and holiday, you can find bags up to 90% off. I’ll say that Walmart (no affiliation here) has gorgeous gift bags in all sizes (stock up on small, medium and large) for .97 cents for the huge ones. Can’t beat that. I organize the bags by season and holiday and the tissue paper in rainbow order. We reuse these for all family gifts but for those you give away to others, ask them to be kind to the earth and reuse the bag.
About once a year, I stack up the tissue paper and on a low temperature, iron them to refresh them for the year ahead. Of course you can buy tissue paper each year but if you’re waste conscious and looking to preserve every precious tree, you can stack up the tissue paper and on a low temperature, iron the stack all at once to refresh them for the year ahead. It takes about 15 minutes and Mother Earth will thank you.
Enjoy!
Stay enchanted.
