Have You Seen Organic, Biodegradable Confetti?
I stumbled upon something so cool I just have to share!
It was one of those things…I was on ETSY late at night because I received an order from my shop, KeytoEnchantment. I was tired but wanted to thank the buyer. After doing so, I hit something accidentally and found myself on a fellow ETSY site, called LaMiaCasa.
What’s in Mia’s shop you ask? OMG! Biodegradable confetti made from special leaves that are organically grown, with no pesticides involved, found in Belgian forests!!! I chatted with Mia, back and forth through messaging, not realizing that she is in Belgium and it was like 2:30 a.m. OMG, again! She is talented and delightful, even in the middle of the night.
As a wedding officiant, I’ve become aware of so many rules around what materials you can and can’t shower a couple with at the wedding. The long-time tradition of throwing rice at the bride and groom to symbolize abundance and fertility was swapped out for bird seed but several venues began banning that.
There was also paper confetti but it incurred additional clean up fees. The word “confetti” comes from the Italian word for “sweets,” and during medieval times, wedding guests showered the blissful couple with sugared almonds but being pelted with them, hurt. Confetti then was made from flower petals or paper.
In Jewish tradition, a week before the wedding, the bridal couple has an aufruf, which means to be “called up” in Yiddish. It is a ceremony in which the couple is called up to the Torah for an Aliyah or blessing. Afterward, the congregation throws candy at them for a sweet life. It’s requested that they be soft, wrapped candies. Most of the little children present do clean-up by picking up the scattered candies.
So how does the problem of clean up from candies or paper confetti get solved? Enter Mia, and her ETSY shop, who uses beautiful flower petals and leaves to make her varied and GORGEOUS confetti that Mother Nature breaks down! Perfect.
Beyond weddings, how fun would this be for outdoor picnics or romantic dinners, parties, etc?
Take a look and stay enchanted!
